Big Little Campers has depots in Auckland and Christchurch, so you can travel around the North Island, the South Island or do a one-way trip between the two.
A 20% deposit is non-refundable. Cancelling 35 to 20 days before pick-up refunds 50% of the hire fee, 19 to 7 days refunds 25%, and later cancellations get no refund. A Flexible Booking add-on allows free cancellation up to 30 days before pick-up.
Daily rates are listed at around NZ$200 to NZ$400, highest from mid-December to February. Winter rates start from NZ$80 per day and relocation hires from NZ$1 per day.

About Big Little Campers
Big Little Campers is a boutique, family-run campervan rental company in New Zealand with depots in Auckland and Christchurch. It designs and builds its own vans, and every camper is certified self-contained with a fixed toilet, fresh water and grey water tanks, so you can use designated freedom camping spots. The fleet is 2018 or newer, with interiors fitted out in 2023 and 2024.
There are three vans. The Little One has a kitchen that slides out from the rear. The Big One is a hi-top with standing room and an indoor kitchen, and can fit a third sleeper. The Biggest One, built on a Fiat Ducato, adds a hot shower, an induction stove and a diesel heater. Each van seats three and sleeps two comfortably.
How to Save at Big Little Campers
- Travel outside the peak: daily rates run from about NZD $200 to $400 and are highest from mid-December to February. Shoulder and off-season dates cost noticeably less, which is the simplest Big Little Campers discount available.
- Winter hire: from June to August, rates can be as low as $80 per day, and winter hires include a complimentary upgrade package.
- Book longer: hires of 14, 21 and 28 or more days get discounted rates, so a three-week trip can cost less per day than a one-week one.

Deposits and Cancellations
As a rental business there is no shipping, so the terms that matter are the deposit and cancellation rules. A 20% non-refundable deposit is paid at booking. Cancel 20 to 35 days before pick-up and you get 50% back, 7 to 19 days before gives 25%, and within 6 days there is no refund. An optional Flexible Booking add-on costs a non-refundable $250 and allows cancellation up to 30 days before pick-up with no fees while locking in current season pricing.
Tips Before You Buy
- Budget for the bond. Standard insurance comes with a $5,000 bond paid at collection, which is the most you would pay for accidental damage. The premium option cuts the bond to $0 for $35 per day, so add that to your daily rate when comparing prices.
- Pick your depot with transport in mind. Christchurch has a complimentary shuttle, while in Auckland you need to arrange a rideshare to the depot.
- Match the van to the season. A winter trip is cheaper, but the Biggest One's diesel heater and hot shower make cold nights easier than in the Little One.
- There is no Big Little Campers promo code or Black Friday 2026 offer on the site as of early November. For summer 2026-27 dates, booking early and using the Flexible Booking add-on protects you against later price rises.
